History of UCEDC

Alicel Grain Silos

The Industrial Development Corporation of
La Grande, Oregon was incorporated in 1980.

The NAME of the organization was amended in 1983 to: Union County Economic Development Corporation (UCEDC).

UCEDC has been involved in a number of land purchases that have been sold to new and existing businesses for expansion.

 

  • In 1988, UCEDC purchased the Geothermal Light Industrial Park and in 1998, sold to Barreto Manufacturing creating new jobs.
  • Purchasing of the Baum Industrial Park in 1989, UCEDC helped existing businesses such as Eagle Cap Steel and Supply, HNS, Boise Cascade, and Eagle Carriage and Machine to expand and create new jobs.
  • In 2001, WC Construction purchased property in the Elgin Industrial Park from UCEDC. Eventually the remaining land was sold to the City of Elgin.
  • After UCEDC sold the remaining 60 acres of in the Baum Industrial Park to Sustainable Energy in 2002, they purchased a total of 63.18 acres in the Gekeler Park. The City of La Grande owns another 15.7 acres in the Park.
  • In 2005, UCEDC and the City of La Grande approved to officially change the Gekeler Park to what now is known as the La Grande Business & Technology Park.
  • In 2006, Phase I infrastructure was complete in the La Grande Business & Technology Park.
  • Lots sold to All Phase Electrical Construction in 2008 and TnT Heating and Air Conditioning in  2009.
  • Tax lot 17 was donated to the Eastern Oregon University Foundation.
  • UCEDC assisted Pendleton Grain Growers (PGG) with purchasing grain silos in Alicel.
  • In 2011, UCEDC was restructured and organized into forming the Business Retention and Expansion Program and the Business Recruitment Program.
  • In February of 2012, The Business Retention and Expansion Program came to a close with 37 local businesses interviewed.
  • In 2012, The Business Recruitment Program has started and is moving forward.
